TERMINAL
Grand Central Madison
The Long Island Rail Road’s East Side terminal, under Grand Central. East Side Access. Work began in 2008. The station opened on 25 January 2023. These frames are from the first week, before the commute filled it.

MTA crews were still on the finishes. Platforms and halls were nearly empty. That is the condition in the pictures: steel, limestone, glass, and no crowd.
The point of the project was the East Side. LIRR trains had terminated at Penn. Madison gives Midtown East a second Manhattan end and shortens that trip.

- About 700,000 square feet in all.
- About 120,000 square feet for passengers; about 25,000 for retail.
- Tied into the Grand Central complex above.
- Permanent work in the station includes pieces by Kiki Smith and Yayoi Kusama.
