LISTEN TO THE OWLS
A Day at Rice
Rice University, Houston, next to the Texas Medical Center. Live oaks, mixed buildings, an owl on the air. A walk across the campus, not a tour script.

The campus does not hold one style. Early brick sits next to later glass and concrete. The photographs follow that mix.

- Opened in 1912, from the estate of William Marsh Rice.
- About 300 acres.
- The mascot is the owl.
Alice Pratt Brown Hall, Shepherd School of Music about 120,000 square feet, Roberto Bofill.

Moody Center for the Arts, Michael Maltzan, 2017. About 50,000 square feet.

- Ground floor is a glass box.
- The floor above is brick and glass, cantilevered to shade the walk.
- Three lanterns; two use a starburst column.
